Sometimes we tend to be lazy at night and skip our daily night routines like brushing our teeth or in this lady's case, removing your contact lenses before going to sleep!

A Facebook post recently went viral after an eye doctor posted a few icky photos of a woman’s cornea being eaten away by bacteria and it’s terrifying!

The doctor said that according to the patient, she frequently sleeps with her contacts in. “I sleep in my contacts all the time and I’ve never had a problem” which resulted in the case of her cornea being eaten away by bacteria and  “leaving a soupy, white necrosis (dead tissue) in its wake.”

The doctor was able control the situation with fortified antibiotic drops and steroids to reduce the scarring, but explained that the patient will probably suffer some form of residual vision loss after.

“It takes seconds to remove your contacts but a potential lifetime of irreversible damage if you choose to leave them in.”

The doctor put fluorescein dye in the ulcer bed that was formed in 36 hours in what the patient described as a “small ulcer” when she consulted the doctor.

The doctor added, “people need to see these images and remind themselves/family/friends to also be aware of contact lens misuse.”

So, if you know a family of friend that wears their contact lenses to sleep, share this with them!

Remember, the time it takes to remove your contact lenses is lot less than the lifetime damage to your eye!
