The band's "Love Myself" campaign, in partnership with UNICEF, launched last year and is aimed towards ending violence against children and teenagers. On behalf of the group, leader, Kim Namjoon—better known as RM, delivered the unified speech about finding self-acceptance that has the Internet hooked.
With his band mates behind him, RM spoke about his own life, upbringing, struggle with self-acceptance, and the positive impact that finding community support has had on his own life and the lives of his band.

"In the intro to one of our old songs, there's a line that says my heart stopped when I was maybe nine or 10. Looking back, that is when I began to worry about what other people thought of me and started seeing myself though their eyes," he said.
"I stopped looking up at the night sky, the stars. I stopped daydreaming. Instead, I tried to jam myself into the other moulds that other people made. Soon, I began to shut out my own voice and listen to the voice of others. No one called out my name and neither did I. My heart stopped and my eyes closed shut. Like this, I—we—all lost our names," he continued.
RM also thanked the BTS Army for their endless support. He specifically spoke of the success of the "Love Myself" campaign with the fans, saying he has heard remarkable stories from "all over the world".
"I have come to love myself for who I am, for who I was, and for who I hope to become," he added.
"I want to hear your voice... No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin colour, gender identity: speak yourself.”

To me, BTS' greatest strength is that they realize art has no boundaries when you love yourself, remain open to the people around you, and respect those who came before you. Namjoon's UN speech embodied that humility in a way I never thought was possible from a global superstar.

I really loved how namjoon was able to incorporate his own story and relate it to the purpose and goal that they strive for others. the speech was so personable, something that’s hard to do for anyone. he impresses me more and more everytime @BTS_twt

namjoon delivered his UN speech so eloquently despite the pressure of the platform & the obligation to represent his members all in a language not his own. You could feel the emotion and conviction behind his message because the journey to love yourself was his story too
