Speed skaters from the South Korean women’s team, Kim Bo-reum and Park Ji-woo, have recently been criticised for what appears to be bullying. Apparently, they insulted their teammate in an interview.

In the quarter finals, the two young women competed in a team event alongside Noh Seon-yeong. Unfortunately, they finished in seventh place, thus eliminating themselves from moving forward in the event.

When asked why they lost, Kim and Park behaved in a very unsportsmanship-like manner by putting the blame on Noh. “We were skating well,” Kim said of herself and Park. “But the last skater couldn’t keep up and we had a disappointing score,” she added.

Park and Kim crossed the finish line 4 seconds ahead of Noh, who crossed the finish line alone. After finishing the team event, Noh sat and cried while her coach tried to comfort her. Her teammates gave her the cold shoulder.

500,000 people have signed a petition to remove Kim and Park from the Olympics team for their behaviour, even though Kim has since apologised for her comments.

The petition read: “It’s a clear national disgrace that such people with a personality problem are representing a country in the Olympics.”

Being bullied can have a huge impact on someone’s life. It affects their self-esteem and emotional wellbeing. There’s never any justification for bullying.
