Japan Restaurant Serves Ramen With Ice Cream And We’re Confused

Not sure if we’d try it or not...

Ramen and ice cream. Yup. You read that right. Ramen and ice cream. Two very separate dishes, now combined into one.

First we had instant noodles with boba, then strawberries on pizza, then boba on pizza and now… we have ramen with ice cream to join in the unique trend. We’re not sure if it’s the pandemic, but people are just getting more and more creative everyday!

The unusual food combination originated from a small Japanese Ramen Restaurant called Furanken. It started when their staff came back from New Year’s break and wanted to try a brand-new menu item: the Amakara Miso Ramen.

The name of the dish may sound familiar, since miso is already a pretty common soup for ramen and amakara just means “sweet and spicy”.

The dish though will make you question everything in life.

Yeap, that’s a whole serving of soft serve ice cream served with...ramen. Eek!

Furanken chose the dessert as a topping in order to fulfill the “sweet” part of the amakara flavor as promised.

“Do ramen and soft cream go together? There may be some people who are worried about this, but this is a great match. Sweet and spicy miso ramen combined with the sweetness of soft cream, and you experience the “sweet and spicy” that you can’t feel in ordinary ramen” the caption reads.

Torisoba Ginza, a sister establishment of Furanken, also took to social media to share the unique food combo.

Taking to their Twitter account, they shared that: “The sweet and spicy miso ramen with Fran's soft serve ice cream is very popular. This is a limited-time product until the end of March, so if you are interested, please try it”

Taking a closer look at the picture, it appears that the vanilla ice cream is drizzled with chocolate sauce and sprinkled with what appears to be flecks of aonori seaweed.

“We hope you’ll accept this opportunity to experience a sweet and spicy flavor that isn’t possible with normal ramen,” Furanken said.

The one-of-a-kind cuisine is not as expensive as you’d think it’d be too. The Amakara Miso Ramen costs just 850 yen (RM31) and if you think about it, you basically get dessert included in the dish too!

Unfortunately for those of you excited to try this unique combination, the dish won’t be on Furanken’s menu for long. It will only be available until the end of March, and of course… in its restaurant in Japan…

Though it looks weird, we must say that we would definitely give the “Frankenstein” ramen a try if it were available in Malaysia. But hey, there’s no stopping you from dropping an ice cream cone into your dish the next time you order a bowl of ramen…

What do you think about the odd combination? Would you give it a try? Let us know!
