Yes, we all love our boba tea filled with tapioca pearls but who would’ve thought that it would cause someone’s death? Well that happened.
A 19-year-old girl and her brother recently bought a cup of bubble tea in China and was heading towards their friend’s house when she suddenly had difficulty breathing and her hands started to turn black.
Unfortunately she died after they arrived at the hospital despite doctors’ efforts to bring her back using CPR and it was later revealed that she had trouble sucking up her boba pearls, but sucked too hard and got three tapioca pearls stuck in her trachea, causing her to suffocate and die.
The report advices the elderly and children to drink their boba tea directly from the cup to decrease the chances of getting choked, and that one tapioca pearl is big enough to block the entire airway.
So yes, we all hate it when the pearls in our boba gets stuck sometimes but drink it slowly to prevent an incident like this!
