What started with a shared passion eventually took them from Sabah to the regional stage, competing at the SEA Games in Thailand.

So, who exactly is GeramBeat?
GeramBeat is made up of four everyday women – Doris Ng Lee Chu (38), Noveny Viannie (26), Victoria Martin (51), and Lisa Lawrence (29).
Like many of us, they juggle work, family life, and all the adulting that comes with it. But when it’s time to train, they show up and give it their all.
And if you think tug of war is just about grabbing a rope and pulling as hard as you can, think again.
The sport takes discipline, trust, timing and teamwork. Everyone has a role to play, and everyone needs to pull in the same direction.
Because when one person moves differently, the whole team feels it.
And that teamwork took them all the way to the SEA Games
Fuelled by grit and a shared love for the sport, GeramBeat made it from Sabah to the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, where they competed in the Women’s 4x4 250kg Tug of War demonstration event.
And they didn’t just compete – they won gold!
Yep, Malaysia brought home gold from the event, and somehow it is a story that many Malaysians still don’t know about.
While tug of war was featured as a demonstration event rather than an official SEA Games medal sport, that doesn’t take away from the commitment, teamwork and determination it took for GeramBeat to get there and come out on top.
Four women, different ages, different lives, different responsibilities – but when it was time to pull, they moved as one.
Their journey is a reminder that sometimes, going further isn’t about doing everything on your own. It’s about finding the right people, putting in the work and having a team that has your back.
