A mother’s home cooked meal will always make you feel like home, and one family decided to try out the last meal made by their mother before she passed away.
A Japanese woman passed away after cooking the last dish for her husband and daughter, and the family decided to refrigerate the meal after being reluctant to throw it away.
Japanese variety show “Detective Knight Scoop” recently recalled the touching moment when the family decided to take the refrigerated meal out of their freezer and eat it five years later.
The daughter Mizuki Takaraya revealed that her mother had cooked the meal before she died of a subarachnoid haemorrhage and her father was sad to see the cooked dish and decided to keep it in a container and put in the freezer.
To ensure that the dish was safe to eat, it was taken to Professor Uchino who checked if it could lead to food poisoning and after looking under the microscope, he said that it is safe to eat in small potion and if it’s cooked at 100 degrees or higher.
A chef named Hayashi then went to the family’s house to reheat the dish and made sure it was sterilise and safe for them to eat. He also added some ginger and green onions to prevent edema and odour without changing the seasoning and taste.
The father and daughter tasted the remade last meal from the mother and the daughter said “it’s delicious” before breaking down in tears after recalling her mother’s life story.
She said that it tastes the same and her father also cried and agreed. Chef Hayashi was also moved to tears by the family's memories.
Many netizens were moved by purity of the relationship between the mother and daughter too, and recollected moments with their own mums.
We're glad to see this family reconnect with their mother, even if it's five years after her death. It definitely makes us appreciate our mums more and you can be sure that we won't say "no" to any home cooked meals in the future.
