Lately, we’ve been getting hot afternoons and thunderstorms in the evening, but Malaysians have been advised to brace themselves for “dry and hot weather” that’s expected to last until September.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the hot and dry weather will be brought on with the onset of the southwest monsoon that is due now.
As was reported by The Star, director-general Datuk Alui Bahari noted that the “winds during the southwest monsoon period would lead to a drier climate and less rain cloud formation.”
The upcoming heatwaves and dry spells are forecasted to take place in many parts of the country.
Areas such as Pahang, Terengganu, Melaka, Johor and the coastal areas of Kelantan are expected to receive slightly less than average rainfall while areas in Sabah like Sandakan, Kudat and Keningau can also expect slightly below average rainfall.
