In cast you haven’t realised, it’s currently awards season over on the other side of the world in Hollywood.

Today, we’re on the heels of the 26th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which has just taken place in Los Angeles, California.

While actors, actresses, directors and crew have been honoured with awards, South Korea’s Parasite has also joined the list of honourees and created history in the process.

At the recent awards show, the cast of the critically acclaimed movie took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and in the process; they made history by becoming the first foreign-language movie to do so.

Directed by Bong Joon Ho, Parasite has been dominating this award season and the movie managed to take home the sole award of which it was nominated for.

“Although the title is ‘Parasite,’ I think the story is about coexistence and how we can all live together,” said actor Song Kang Ho during the acceptance speech. “But to be honoured with the best ensemble award, it occurs to me that we haven’t created such a bad movie.”

Parasite has been breaking barriers and creating history ever since it first made it was to the big screen. At the 2019 Cannes Film Fesival, the movie became the first South Korean movie to win the Palme d’Or – the highest award at the festival.

This year’s Golden Globes saw the movie taking on three nominations and also created history by becoming the first Korean movie to win its Best Foreign Language Film award.

Parasite is also currently nominated in six categories for the upcoming 92nd Academy Awards, including best director and best picture.

It’s safe to say that both sides of the world are in love with this movie as the cast received a standing ovation at the SAG Awards before their win was even announced.

When actors Song Kang-ho, Park So-dam, Choi Woo-shik, Lee Jung-eun and Lee Sun-kyun took to the stage to present their movie in the best ensemble category, the audience erupted in cheers.

Congratulations to the cast of Parasite on their much deserved win! We’re hoping that they’ll break more barriers and create more history with this movie!
