It was just announced that the current FMCO will be extended for another two weeks to help curb the spread of Covid-19.

During these tough times, we must not forget our frontliners who are dedicating their lives for our safety and the safety of our loved ones. From medical frontliners to police officers to delivery riders, we thanks them for all their efforts.

One pair of police officers however, have gone above and beyond the call of service by helping to bring life into the world at a roadblock in Sarawak.

When a 26-year-old mother in Samarahan, Kuching, was ready to give birth, her 28-year-old husband quickly rushed her to the Sarawak General Hospital but unfortunately, the couple was stuck in a roadblock on the way.

The husband quickly rushed up to the roadblock and informed the officers on duty that his wife was about to give birth.

Lance Corporal Noor Fatihah Azelam was on duty from 4pm to 12am at the roadblock on the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, when the man came up in a panic for help.

“As I approached the vehicle, I could see that the woman had already given birth,” the officer said.

“I quickly helped her to unravel the umbilical cord that was wrapped around the baby’s neck.”

The officer noted that her colleague, Corporal Perakason Jennie was also present at the scene that took place close to midnight, and helped to cover the baby with a towel.

Confirming the incident with Harian Metro, Samarahan District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Sudirman Kram shared that the woman’s husband was in a state of panic and continued to drive towards the roadblock to get help.

“Our officer found that the woman had already given birth and helped her,” he said. “Coincidentally, another officer who was about to report for duty was present and assisted by covering the baby in a blanket.”

He added that the mother and newborn baby were then taken to Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.
