All eyes were on Miss Grand Malaysia 2021, Lishalliny Kanaran, who stole the show with her lavish costume, the “Ulek Mayang” at the Miss Grand International show in Thailand recently.
The stunning 24-year-old won 'Best National Costume' during the pageant finals at DC Hall in Bangkok.
According to mStar, the costume worn by Lishalliny featured seven mannequins draped in blue and gold towering behind her, that weighs a whopping 50kg. Now that is something we don’t see everyday!
Lishalliny shared on her Instagram that the costume was inspired by an old folk song and dance from Terengganu called the Seven Ancient Princesses of Ulek Mayang.
The unique costume was a work of Aldrin's Artistry, a local bridal boutique.
The costume is based on a tale about a fisherman whose soul was stolen by a sea princess who fell in love with him.
The fisherman's soul and health was later restored with the help of a bomoh (a witch doctor), who then confronted the sea princess and her six sisters.
Lishalliny represented the bomoh in black and gold.
We’re super proud of Lishalliny’s performance and for winning Best National Costume! Congratulations!
