Humans have been trying to make contact with extraterrestrial life for a long time now and it might happen sooner than we thought, in the form of a mixtape.

A team of scientists and musicians created a project called "Sónar Calling GJ 273b” to send a message to aliens in a nearby “Super Earth”.

The message however doesn’t explain anything about life on earth, but in fact consists of thirty-three musical pieces that’s each 10 seconds long and sent it via radio waves to the exoplanet, GJ 273b that’s 12 light years away!

The message also contains information on when we will be listening for a response to the message sent and a tutorial on how human keep time!

The mix tape was transmitted nine different times to make sure it reaches the “Super Earth” that’s said to be a good candidate for alien life, with contact expected to be made in 24 years if there is in fact intelligent lifeforms on it.

Located in another star system, Planet GJ 273b is slightly bigger than earth and is within its star’s habitable zone.

The project was led by the Sónar music festival in collaboration with METI (Messaging to Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) International and the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia in Spain.

The message is the first of its kind that's designed for a direct response at a specific time and it’s exciting to know that we could very well receive a respond in just 24 years!

If you could pick one song to send to alien lifeforms, what would it be? Tell us what you would send in your message!
