New MyKad Will Be Safer

The new MyKad will feature over 50 security elements, more than double compared to the current version.

This includes an enhanced chip, laser engraving, UV elements and QR codes for enforcement purposes.

However, it will not include the Touch n Go feature.

The National Registration Department says the new version is expected to be rolled out next month.

An investigation is currently underway into an incident in Mukah, Sarawak where a teenaged student was killed while another was seriously injured after being electrocuted outside their school surau.

Besides the police investigation, the state education department has also opened an internal probe.

The fatal incident has also prompted a local MP to call for an immediate and comprehensive audit of the electrical wiring at all schools, especially for dilapidated schools across Sarawak.

The Home Ministry is proposing charging those who abuse the diesel fleet card system in court, instead of merely issuing them with compounds.

It says this is becoming necessary, as the misappropriation involves huge amounts of diesel, and severely impacts the government’s efforts to prevent subsidy leakages.

States have been asked to do more to act against premises involved in e-waste processing as part of the shared commitment with federal authorities to eradicate the problem.

Starting next month, Malaysians holding valid foreign driving licenses can apply to have it converted into a Malaysian Driving License, subject to record checks and compliance with SOP’s.
