Minister Clears Sunshade Confusion

The Transport Minister has addressed confusion over whether removable car sunshades and curtains are legal.

Anthony Loke says under existing laws, authorities can take action if such accessories pose a risk…but the JPJ’s main focus is on offences that pose a more serious threat to road users, like illegal racing and drunk driving.

The Minister also told Berita Harian that the department has not issued any summonses so far for installing sunshades.

This comes after earlier reports cited the JPJ as saying that the use of sunshades in moving vehicles is an offence under existing regulations.

Separately, the driver of the trailer that was involved in a fatal accident along the Karak Highway near Bentong, has been released on police bail after his remand period expired.

Police say they’ve received a report about a secondary school student allegedly choking his schoolmate in Cheras over an argument about canteen seating arrangements.

They add that the assailant has already been suspended.
