Govt To Introduce Post-Maternity Leave Allowance

The govt has announced plans to introduce a Post‑Maternity Leave Allowance for female workers.

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says the one-off allowance is expected to benefit over 132,000 female workers, who are eligible to receive 80% of their assumed monthly salary.

It will provide financial assistance for up to 30 days of additional leave after the completion of the 98‑day maternity leave period.

Datuk Seri Anwar adds that the government will amend the Self-Employment Social Security Act to extend SOCSO protections to citizens who work abroad.

It will start with those who commute daily between Malaysia and Singapore before being expanded to those who work in other countries.

He said this during the 2026 Labour Day celebration in Bukit Jalil.
