Some days are good health days. You’re working out, eating healthily, getting enough rest, and everything feels 10/10.

But, being on top of your game ain’t the full picture…

In the spirit of World Heart Day, it’s a good time to check in with yourself and pay a little more attention to your heart health. One thing worth keeping tabs on? Your blood pressure (BP).

Checking your BP regularly is important, but there’s something else… the BP monitor you’re using!

Unregistered BP monitors = red flag!

Your BP reading can give you a better idea of what’s going on with your health. But if your monitor is counterfeit, not MDA-registered, or bought from an unverified source, the BP numbers are probably inaccurate too.

Devices that haven’t been properly registered or verified may not provide reliable readings! This means there’s a chance you’re not getting your actual BP and can delay you in getting the medical help you unknowingly need.

And since consistently high BP is a massive no-no for health complications including stroke and heart disease, you definitely don't want to play guessing games.

So, before you trust the numbers on the screen, make sure the device itself is actually clinically validated.

OMRON x MDA have teamed up with BIG Pharmacy

To help Malaysians stay safe, blood pressure monitor provider OMRON, has collaborated with BIG Pharmacy, bringing in the Medical Device Authority (MDA) – Malaysia’s official medical device regulator – to train and speak with their pharmacists about genuine products and how to spot fake and unregistered ones.

But what does it mean for you?

As part of this initiative, you can:

#1 Find out if your BP monitor is legit

Walk into BIG Pharmacy, hand your monitor to an MDA-trained pharmacist and they’ll check it, explain the details, and give you on-the-spot advice. No guesswork, no jargon!

#2 Trade in your old BP monitor

From now until March 2027, you can trade in your old BP monitor for a registered and clinically validated one in any BIG Pharmacy stores.

#3 Get free BP checks!

Drop by selected BIG Pharmacy outlets to get a free BP reading and an AFib screening (to check for irregular heart rhythms).
