BERSIH has welcomed the tabling of the bill that aims to limit the prime minister to just two terms in office.  

Its chairman, Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz urged all members of parliament to give their full support to the bill and hopes that it can be passed quickly without any objections.  

"Our main message is for all MPs to fully support this historic bill".

The bill was tabled in parliament today, and the de facto Law and Institutional Reform Minister said it's expected to have its second reading next week.  

Muhammad Faisal reminded MPs that this issue is more important than partisan politics, and urged them to debate the bill responsibly, as the main objective is to secure the nation's future.  

He also told us that this bill is important to preserving our democracy, because allowing a leader to stay in power for too long puts the country at risk of sliding into dictatorship.  

The term limits bill is one of the key manifestos for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration.  

Last week, he said that when it becomes law, he will be the first prime minister to observe the ten-year limit.  

It is one of two reform bills that were tabled in Parliament today.  

The other proposes to separate the powers of the Attorney General and Public prosecutor.  

This bill aims to ensure that prosecutions are carried out out without political interference.
