Strong Earthquake Hits Sabah

A powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake has occurred in the waters off Kota Kinabalu early this morning.

The Met Department saying tremors were felt across Sabah as well as parts of Sarawak and the Peninsular.

The earthquake did not trigger a tsunami warning, while there’ve also been no reports of any damage.

Fire stations across Sabah, however, have been placed on alert, with personnel also instructed to conduct patrols to ensure the situation remains under control.

The number of flood evacuees across three districts in Sabah has risen to over 4,300…compared to just two thousand-plus overnight.

In a related development, the Federal government will review flood mitigation measures in frequently-flooded areas of Sabah…as part of long-term measures to address the problem.

The Finance Ministry is warning of false claims circulating on social media, regarding applications for Ramadan aid and claims for e-tunai credit.

It confirmed that the poster, which bears the Prime Minister’s image to promote the 500 ringgit assistance for the fasting month, is fake.

The ministry is also urging the public not to click on any suspicious links or share personal information with unauthorized parties.

In a related development, police have recorded 100 love scam cases in January this year alone…involving losses amounting to some 3.5 million ringgit.

Cops say women remain the worst-affected...accounting for 60 percent of the total cases.
