PM Term Limit Bill To Be Tabled Next Week

The govt will press on with its planned institutional reforms, when it tables two bills in Parliament on Monday.

One of the bills aims to set a 10 year, or two term limit for prime ministers.

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called for bipartisan support for the bill and hopes it can be passed quickly.

He reckons that a 10-year-limit is enough time for one person to do the job.

Datuk Seri Anwar also confirmed that if it becomes law, he will be the first PM to have term limits.

According to the de facto Law and Institutional Reform Minister, the two term limit is calculated cumulatively over a lifetime.

This means that it doesn't matter if the terms are served consecutively or not.

Meanwhile, the second bill to be tabled on Monday will propose the separation of powers for the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor.

The move aims to ensure an independent prosecution that is free of any political interference.
