Platforms Too Slow In Removing Harmful Content

Social media platforms have been criticized for not acting fast enough to take down content promoting gambling and fraud.

The Communications Ministry says a lot of this content is only removed after it has already reached a large audience.

It adds that many of these posts are even sponsored…demanding that social media platforms do more to screen the content before allowing it to be published.

In the first two weeks of this year alone…the MCMC had removed more than 15 thousand pieces of online gambling content…and a further five thousand-plus pieces containing elements of fraud.
