Stronger measures need to be taken to prevent a repeat of a recent case in Johor where a passenger was allegedly sexually harassed by her e-hailing driver.

Ajit Johl, president of the Malaysian Public Transport Users Association says that while the fault lies with the driver in this instance, e-hailing platforms can also do more to better screen their drivers:

He admits that such detailed screening is easier said than done but he’s hoping that platforms will at least start to look at possible options.

All those convicted under the country’s new anti-littering law will be carrying out their community service order simultaneously next Friday.

The Housing and Local Government Minister says these individuals will have to clear drains, sweep roads and clean public toilets in accordance with their respective court convictions.

He adds that so far, some 600 people have been issued with offence notices for minor littering…although only three have been convicted so far.

The PM says the government is currently prioritizing education assistance for students from the poorest backgrounds who need help the most.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim adds that incentives and aid for high-performing students, will be considered and introduced later in stages.

Women now hold nearly 40 percent of the top management jobs in the public sector.

The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry says women also held more than 33 percent of board seats in the top 100 public listed companies on Bursa Malaysia.

The Health Ministry says we’re facing a shortage of cancer specialists, with only 184 oncologists currently serving nationwide, most of whom are in the private sector.
