There is an urgent need to review and amend existing laws to tackle the worsening problem of train cable theft. 

The Home Ministry says such crime poses serious risks to public safety and national infrastructure.

It explained that the current penalties – which include relatively low fines – no longer match the scale of losses and danger caused by such theft. 

The ministry is also urging rail operators to invest more in upgraded security features including CCTV systems to prevent theft along vulnerable stretches of track.

The government is cracking down on illegal e-waste smuggling. 

As such, the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency will be expanding its enforcement operations to all ports and entry points nationwide. 

It will also work closely with multiple agencies, including the police, Customs Department, and Immigration Department, among others to conduct joint raids and inspections.

The move is also in line with the Prime Minister's recent directive for enforcement agencies to start executing plans on the ground, instead of merely planning and strategizing.

The Federal Territories Minister has clarified that the study on the proposal to hold an election for the KL mayor’s post is being conducted by a reputable local university.

Hannah Yeoh adds that once the study is complete, the Cabinet will review the findings before deciding if it's suitable for implementation.

The Border Control and Protection Agency says it needs about 400 investigating officers to support its operational and enforcement needs. 

The agency explained that it's because it intends to implement its own investigation and prosecution functions in the future.

The Education Ministry has assured that the recruitment of over 20 thousand new teachers will not affect the opportunities of existing reserve teacher candidates. 

It explained that reserve candidates will still have the opportunity to be absorbed into the education service.
