The National Registration Department is urging people not to rush for the new-generation MyKad that rolled out today, as the current version of the ID is still valid.

This, amid an increase in new applications compared to normal days, which the department acknowledged may be due to a Fear of Missing Out or FOMO.

In fact some NRD branches say priority for the new MyKad will be given to those who urgently need to replace damaged or lost identity cards as well as those who are changing their address.

Meanwhile, the department assured that the new ID can be used immediately for official purposes like claiming government subsidies and assistance.

It also clarified that the QR code at the back of the document is meant for use by enforcement agencies only and cannot be read by ordinary smartphone cameras.

MAHB says the runway at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport has been temporarily closed for rectification works, with no further details provided about the nature of the work or length of closure. 

Its also advising passengers to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight status and updates.
