650 Malaysians Still Stranded In The Middle East

Nearly 650 Malaysian nationals are still stranded in several parts of the Middle East, amid the uncertain security situation there.

The Foreign Ministry says our diplomatic missions are now focusing their efforts on securing our citizen’s return via available commercial flights.

It adds that the government also has a contingency evacuation plan that can be activated at any time, should conditions in the middle east worsen.

The Veterinary Services Department says its investigated more than six thousand complaints under the Animal Welfare Act over the past five years. 

It told the NST that more than 80 percent of these, involved cases of neglect.

It adds that the bulk of the complaints were recorded in Selangor, followed by KL and Penang.

The government is studying several age verification methods…ahead of the ban on Under-16’s having social media accounts.

The Communications Ministry says that while we already have things like the MyKad and MyDigital ID…it is open to other forms of ID checks if they are more effective.

In a separate development, the ministry says more than 70 thousand prepaid SIM card lines were terminated last year…on suspicion of being misused to send suspicious messages.

In other news...

The Home Ministry says PDRM will require more time to investigate the case where six locals, including three minors, were detained for allegedly being involved in IS-related extremist activity.

And, the Works Ministry says the government is bearing costs of up to 500 million ringgit to maintain the existing toll rates along ten major highways this year.
