If you are a true pet lover, you wouldn’t be able to stand people that mistreat their pets or any animal on the streets! And in case you didn’t know, animals do have rights too!

According to the Animal Welfare Act 2015, if you were to treat animals and pets with cruelty you will be punished!

Here’s what the act states:

1)    Dumping an animal is stipulated under Section 29.

2)   This section includes offences such as possessing without reasonable cause, any animal which is suffering in pain by reason of mutilation, starvation, thirst, overcrowding or other ill-treatment; abandoning any animal in circumstances in which it is likely to suffer from trauma, pain or by reason of relocation, starvation, thirst, injury or illness.

3)    Negligently causing any animal to go out unattended in any place while it is infected with infectious disease, as well as negligently causing any diseased, disabled or injured animal to die in any place.

This is also applicable to animal owners! If you’re found guilty of animal abuse, you risk being slapped with a fine of not less than RM20,000 and not more than RM100,000, or imprisonment for not more than three years, or both.

One of the main reasons why animal cruelty happens and goes unreported is because most Malaysians are seemingly not aware that this act exists.

So if you see someone mistreating their pets or animals, even on social media, report it and stop animal cruelty!
