A restaurant in Jalan Pondok Upeh in Penang is offering a warm plate of plain briyani rice for only 10 sen!

In case you’re thinking of trying it out yourself, Bean Café is located opposite Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara and operates from 9am till 4pm every day.

Ibrahim Abdul Rahim, who owns the business, inherited the restaurant from his father 15 years ago.

The average price for a plate of plain briyani is around RM3, so RM0.10 seems too hard to believe.

However, Ibrahim had an explanation. “Yes, I agree that the pricing for my food and drinks may seem out-of-this-world but I just want to ensure my meals are affordable to everyone!” he said.

“I believe people dining out deserve to have a satisfactory meal just as they do at home. So my wish is that they would never feel burdened when it comes to paying for a fairly decent meal,” he continued.

Ibrahim also offers a few other dishes to complement the biryani rice such as chicken pieces for RM3.50 and fish head curry for RM5 (each).

In a day, he receives more than 400 customers and most of his customers are low-income working adults and college students.

Two barrels of briyani rice and tomato rice are prepared each day which can cater up to 180 customers.

Ibrahim even offering the briyani rice for free for over three years but many of his customers felt shy and uneasy about not having to pay. So, he came up with the nominal 10 sen per plate of rice.

We can’t wait to try out this briyani! Would you give it a try?
