Unless you’ve been living in a cave somewhere, you’ll know that this year’s haze is probably one of the worst we’ve had.

Today at 9am, five places in Malaysia have recorded “very unhealthy” air quality due to the haze.

These places are Putrajaya, Johan Setia in Klang, and Sri Aman, Samarahan and Kuching in Sarawak.

The Air Pollutant Index Management System (Apims) portal noted that the API in Putrajaya was at 203 as of 9am, which is a deterioration from the 199 reading at 7am.

Johan Setia’s API was at 208; Sri Aman at 217; Samarahan at 223; and Kuching at 248.

These areas are currently in the “very unhealthy” air quality category.

If you’re unfamiliar with how the API readings work, here’s a quick break down.

An API reading between 0 and 50 indicates good air quality while a reading between 51 to 100 is seen as moderate. A reading of 101 to 200 indicates unhealthy air quality and 201 to 300 is very unhealthy.

Anything above a 300 API is hazardous.

Meanwhile, in the Klang Valley, Petaling Jaya’s reading was recorded at 146; Shah Alam at 155; Klang at 138; Batu Muda at 106; Cheras at 156; and Banting at 161.

In Negri Sembilan, three places were recorded with “unhealthy” readings with Nilai at 170, Seremban at 137, and Port Dickson at 135.

Malacca recorded readings of 123 at Alor Gajah; 127 at Bukit Rambai; and 138 at the Historical City of Melaka.

Over in Pahang, Temerloh recorded readings at 162; Indera Mahkota Kuantan at 176; and Balak Baru, Kuantan at 145.

Down in Johor, Segamat recorded 124 readings and Tangkak at 153.

In Terengganu, Kemaman was at 147 and Paka at 117.

On the east side of Malaysia, in Sabah, Tawau was at 134; while Sandakan was at 108.

In Sarawak, Miri’s API reading was at 128; Samalaju at 130; Bintulu at 154; Mukah at 129; Sibu at 142; and Sarikei at 162.

With the haze this bad, we hope everyone’s taking precautions! Wear masks, drink lots of water and stay indoors as much as you can!

Be sure to take care of yourselves!
