Featuring two 16-storey tall towers, the drawbridge is currently open for test runs until 17th June. Pedestrians however, are currently not allowed to walk on the bridge to take pictures as the pedestrian route is still closed.

“At the moment, pedestrians are not allowed as the bridge’s temporary opening is only for traffic trials and open to vehicles only to ease traffic congestion. We will announce the official opening date on June 17,” said Razlee Hassan, the East Coast Economic Region Development Council senior manager.

To celebrate the Hari Raya festivities, the surroundings of the drawbridge will be fully decked out with coloured lights until 7th June.

State Tourism, Culture and Communications Committee chairman, Ariffin Deraman, noted that he was very optimistic that the drawbridge will become a tourist attraction for those who would love to see the first ever drawbridge in Southeast Asia.

“We are also targeting many local visitors from Kelantan and Pahang to come to Kuala Terengganu to see the drawbridge,” said the chairman to Bernama. “Even now, when the bridge has not yet been opened, many visitors from Kelantan come here just to look at it from afar.”
