Drivers, when was the last time you thought about your car’s airbags?

The Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ) is advising that you do so as soon as you can, especially if it’s a Takata airbag.

Recently, JPJ released a statement on their official social media page to remind drivers to replace their airbags should they have been manufactured by Japanese automotive parts company, Takata Corporation.

Even though the Takata airbags were recalled over four years ago, there are still too many cars on the road that have not gotten the airbags changed.

In case you were not aware, the faulty airbags were recalled as they have been known to explode under a combination of heat and humidity.

When the airbags deploy, a part in the defective airbags can explode shooting sharp metal fragments at the people inside the vehicle. This can occur no matter how the airbags deploy, be it in an accident or by heat and humidity.

Due to the fact that many cars on the roads have not yet gotten the faulty airbags changed, JPJ is advising drivers to not only change the airbags in question but to also advise their loved ones to check their cars and do the same if affected.

As some drivers could be owners of second hand cars, they may not be aware that their car’s airbags needs to be changed because they did not receive the official notice from their vehicle manufacturers.

FYI, these are the brands that have been affected by the recall:

JPJ has also made it simple for drivers to check if their cars need to have their airbags recalled. They’ve provided links to the car manufacturer’s websites so that it’s easier for you to check it out ASAP.

Here’s where you can check your car out:

1. HONDA : https://productrecall.honda.com.my/

2. TOYOTA : https://toyota.com.my/aftersales-…/special-service-campaigns

3. BMW : https://www.bmw.com.my/…/bmw-owners/takataairbagtechnicalca…

4. SUBARU : http://sites.subaru.asia/my/en/owners/aftersales/?pg=recall

5. MAZDA : https://mazda.com.my/Community/takata-announcement.aspx…

6. NISSAN : http://servicecampaign.nissan.com.my/

7. MITSUBISHI : http://mitsubishi-motors.com.my/mmm-takata-airbag-recall-la…

Take a minute to check out your car’s status as you never know, it could save a life. If your car’s on the list, take some time to get it changed as soon as you can to avoid any unnecessary incidents.

Share this with your loved ones so that they can check it out too!
