One of the best things to have come out from the world being on lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, is that Mother Nature was slowly healing herself.

With people in their homes, pollution levels were dropping all over the world, and various animals were even seen in public spaces that were usually filled with humans.

After almost three months of staying home, we know that many are glad to have entered the Recovery Movement Control Order phase but unfortunately, this move has brought a negative impact on the environment, beaches in particular.

Since the RMCO was put in place three days ago, many people have flooded the beaches of Port Dickson to relax with their families and loved ones.

Although there have been many visitors, the beaches have been put under strict guidelines and SOPs, and beachgoers are encouraged to continue practicing social distancing.

It’s definitely great to spend time with your loved ones outdoors once again, but unfortunately irresponsible beach goers have soured this experience by leaving a mess of garbage behind them.

In just three days, the beaches have once again been filled with litter everywhere! When will humans learn?!

Yang Dipertua Majlis Perbandaran Port Dickson (MPPD), Mohd Zamri Mohd Esa noted that the beaches were indeed open once again to visitors under the RMCO but he stressed that SOPs must be followed by all.

However, speaking to Harian Metro he said, “We have gotten multiple complaints from beachgoers about the irresponsible actions of some visitors who are carelessly throwing their garbage all over and contaminating the areas.”

In this regard, he noted that MPPD is currently looking into the littering issue.

“MPPD will look into different mechanisms to curb the issue of waste disposal at the beaches,” he said. “This includes patrolling, charging compounds and exploring the option to place closed-circuit cameras (CCTVs) around.”

We know you may be excited to be able to go outdoors, but please be responsible with your trash and dispose of it in the correct manner.

If you see someone being irresponsible, perhaps you could help them to realize the error of their ways.

The planet has just gone through a short cleanse and began to heal itself, so lets all work together to keep the Earth clean for our futures and the future of those after us.
