Recently, there has been an increase of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia and according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, cases in Selangor are increasing at a fast pace.

Following a surge in daily new cases, Selangor has recorded a 1.95 Rt, which is much higher than Sabah’s which is at 1.26.

For those of you who do not know, an Rt value is used to calculate how fast the virus is spreading.

“The Rt in Sabah has stabilized, although it was still at 1.29 on Tuesday (Sept 29),” the director-general said in a Facebook post. “This situation is still worrying, as it involves a high number of new cases.”

“The rise in Selangor’s Rt value is due to the surge in new daily infections of between 10 to 15 compared with two to three cases before this,” he said. “This indicates an increased risk of outbreaks if public health measures are not taken.”

“The Rt may go up if we do not take optimal public health intervention measures,” he added.

Dr Noor Hisham also shared that Kedah’s Rt has decreased from more than 1 to 0.65, which reflected the state’s compliance with the effective SOPs set in place. Kedah recorded only two cases in four days.

Malaysia’s Rt value is currently at 1.25.

The director-general reminded all Malaysians to continuously follow the SOPs and measures set by the government, so as to curb the increase of COVID-19 cases in the country.

Be sure to keep practicing physical distancing, follow SOPs that have been set, wear a mask and constantly sanitise and wash your hands!
