As more and more countries around the world are slowly loosening their lockdown measures, there have been many new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) put in place to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

A mall in Bangkok has come up with an inventive and smart idea to help in these efforts.

It’s idea? Elevator pedals.

Bangkok’s Seacon Square has decided to swap out its lift buttons for foot pedals in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus and to also help restore a sense of normalcy for its shoppers.

Shoppers at the mall were at first surprised and confused at the introduction of the pedals but they’ve welcomed the new hands-free method as a smart move to stay healthy.

“They did a good job in preparing this,” said Watcharaporn, a customer at the mall. “I feel much safer because we use our hands to do various things all the time.”

“Now that we can use our foot to press the elevator, it’s really great,” the customer added.

Vice president of Seacon Development, Prote Sosothikul, who oversees the mall, noted that the foot pedals gave shoppers some peace of mind.

“The easiest way to get infected is when you touch an object that has been contaminated,” he said.

“Eventually [you] touch your face and the virus will go into you mouth, your eyes, or whatever,” he continued. “So we came up with this idea of hands-free, foot-operated elevator.”

This is definitely an idea that should be implemented everywhere! It’ll definitely help to stop the spread of germs!

In the meantime, be sure to keep playing your part by staying safe and staying home, and only going out if it’s absolutely necessary. And if you’re going out, be sure to practice social distancing.
