If you’re angry that your 4G network isn’t working sometimes, prepare yourself because the moon might be getting better 4G than you!

NASA just awarded Bells Lab with $14.1 million to deploy 4G cellular network on the moon as a part of their goal of building a lunar base and astronauts working on the moon by 2028!

"The system could support lunar surface communications at greater distances, increased speeds and provide more reliability than current standards," NASA wrote.

The 4G network will be upgraded to 5G eventually and will be the "the first LTE/4G communications system in space”!

And seeing that there will not be any tree, buildings and other signals to interfere with the 4G signal, it is safe to say that the 4G network on the moon will work better than the ones we have here on earth.

The network will be "specially designed to withstand the extreme temperature, radiation and vacuum conditions of space” and is built to be compact and efficient.

Bells Labs intends to have the networks available to support lunar rovers and navigation’s wireless operation and, wait for it… video streaming!

"This groundbreaking network will be the critical communications fabric for data transmission applications, including the control of lunar rovers, real-time navigation over lunar geography and streaming of high definition video," the company wrote.

Looks like the future of watching astronauts live-stream their moonwalks might not be too far away, and who knows, perhaps it could help astronauts video call their family on earth too.

Are you excited about the moon having a 4G network? Let us know what’s your 4G network experience!
