If you’re a parrot owner, you might encounter instances when your parrot starts learning words you say and sometimes they happen to be bad words. But having a couple of cursing parrots might not be a good idea for a wildlife park…
Recently, a British wildlife park was forced to remove five parrots from public view because they wouldn’t stop swearing at the visitors!
The parrots were reportedly donated to the park within the same week and were quarantined in the same facility before they were put for public viewing, contributing to one room “full of swearing birds.”
"It just went ballistic, they were all swearing," the wildlife park's chief executive Steve Nichols said. "We were a little concerned about the children."
The five parrots named Eric, Jade, Elsie, Tyson and Billy are all African grey parrots that were adopted by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park six weeks ago, and Steve noted that he got cursed at every time he walked past them.
"They literally, within a very short period of time, starting swearing at each other," he said.
“It's a very easy one for them to learn" -- but the birds would utter "anything you can think of” and “the visitors were giving them as much back as what they were giving to them.”
“The more they swear the more you usually laugh, which then triggers them to swear again,” Steve explained.
The parrots have since been separated and the staff hope that they will become more family-friendly after splitting up, or “ at least if they do swear it is not as bad as three or four of them all blasting it out at once.”
“If they teach the others bad language and I end up with 250 swearing birds, I don’t know what we’ll do.”
There has been a surge in donations due to the pandemic and owners have decided to give them to parks that can provide a larger living space for them.
But perhaps it’s a better idea to make sure you don’t teach your parrot any foul words to begin with!
