Fans Love Mads Mikkelsen As Grindelwald But Still Angry For Johnny Depp

Mads Mikkelsen has officially been confirmed to replace Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts 3 movie.

Warner Bros announced that the deal has become official following rumours early this month on the Hannibal star taking over the character.

Johnny Depp announced his exit from the movie a few weeks ago following the controversy on the legal battle between him and his ex-wife Amber Heard.

He resigned at the request of the studio after filming just one scene for the movie (which he will still receive his full salary for) and fans have been petitioning to get the 57-year-old star back in the movie.

Fans are now conflicted because they love Mads Mikkelsen and thinks he’s a great suit for the character, but ultimately still angry that Johnny Depp was replaced.

Dude, I love Mads Mikkelsen, and I'm sure he'll nail the role.
But they shouldn't have booted Johnny out. It just doesn't seem right to fire and replace him, even with an actor as skilled as Mads.

Mads is a great actor, but I just can't imagine watching this now. It's been forever tainted by WB's actions. 😔 Mads also deserves better than this, hope to see him in more big roles in general. ❤️

Even though I want Johnny Depp.... Mads is a phenomenal actor too. He was fantastic as Hannibal Lector.

Mads could and most definitely would make a great Grindlewald but Johnny is the face of Grindlewald and shouldn’t hv lost the role in the first place

Many Hannibal fans are also frustrated to see Mads Mikkelsen take over the role as it slims down the chance of them getting a Hannibal revival while others can’t wait to see him transform into the villainous character on screen.

I think in-story it works. Johnny only became Grindelwald in last few minutes of FB1, now they can just explain it that Grindelwald is growing his base and to blend in he chose another face. Mads also looks a bit more like Grindelwald in HP where he was locked up in Azkaban.

Filming has already begun for the new Fantastic Beasts 3 movie and is scheduled to be released in July 2022.
