Joaquin Phoenix gave us one of the best portrayals of Joker in the 2019 movie and fans have been rooting for his performance to win awards… and he did!

The Joker origin movie was nominated for four honours at the 77th Golden Globes awards and Joaquin won Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his role as Arthur Fleck!

Composer Hildur Guðnadóttir also won Best Original Score – Motion Picture for the soundtrack in Joker!

Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Adam Driver (Marriage Story), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes) and Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari) were nominated alongside Joaquin Phoenix.

“Todd, you were such an amazing friend and collaborator and you convinced me to do this movie. And you encouraged me to give everything and to be sincere,” Joaquin Phoenix said in his speech. “I’m such a pain in the ***, I can’t believe you put up with me.”

He went on to acknowledge his girlfriend Rooney Mara, who starred in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and got a little emotional.

Joaquin also addressed the bushfire crisis in Australia saying, “It’s really nice that so many people have come up and sent their well wishes to Australia. But we have to do more than that.”

Joker was the first R-rated movie to have crossed the $1 billion mark at the box office worldwide.

Director/writer Todd Phillips said that deal for a sequel had been discussed but “there is not yet a deal in place.”

Congratulations Joaquin Phoenix! Do you want to see him return as Joker in a sequel? Let us know!
