Cancer is scary because it’s known for not having a cure, but scientists have just created a treatment that can kill every type of cancer!

Scientists at the Australia biotech company, Imugene created a new cowpox-style virus called CF33 that can kill every type of cancer in a petri dish and even shrunk tumours in mice!

US cancer expert Professor Yuman Fong is engineering the treatment and will hopefully start testing the treatment on breast cancer patients next year.

The virus was turned into a treatment for brain cancer in the US and cancer disappeared in some patients years before coming back while tumours shrunk considerably in other patients.

“There was evidence that viruses could kill cancer from the early 1900s when people vaccinated against rabies had their cancer disappear, they went into remission,” said Professor Fong.

'The problem was if you made the virus toxic enough to kill cancer you were worried it would also kill a man.”

Cowpox is mixed with other viruses and would be injected directly into the tumours to infect the cancer cells, making them explode.

The body’s immune system will then be alerted about the other cancer cells in the body and kill the diseased cells.

The virus can successfully treat mice for now. Although it does not ensure if it’ll be able to treat humans, Professor Fong remains positive looking at how other viruses have effectively fought cancer in humans.

This is certainly good news and hope that we will soon have a cure for cancer!
