A Realistic Fitness Plan For The Not-So-Fit Person

You don’t need to be reminded that good health is important. You don’t need to be told that exercising and eating healthy are practices that should be incorporated into your life. You already know these things. However, the thought of spending 30 torturous minutes in the gym everyday is enough to have you shouting, “N to the O”, like…

But that doesn’t mean it’s a reason to give in to the couch potato lifestyle altogether—come on, your life is worth a whole lot more! Plus, YOLO.

The secret here is not to throw yourself into intense fitness routines and extreme healthy diets from the get go. Let’s keep it real and take it one little step at a time. That way, the chances of quitting halfway is less likely, too.

Take a cue from the everyday guy, hitz fm’s Arnold Loh, who recently decided to man up and take on AIA Vitality’s challenge to #BeBetter…

With some help from his Instagram fans, Arnold broke down his #BeBetter journey to three challenges…

Set on losing that muffin top, Arnold’s first baby step to “improving stamina” was well, to climb steps… and not feel like dying by the end of it.

Having conquered the stairs, Arnold moved on to “eating healthy”—cutting out unhealthy sugary snacks…

For the crème de la crème, in his attempt to “maintain physical strength”, Arnold, who hasn’t been to the gym in yonks, decided to try something a little bit more canggih than the usual threadmill. He signed up for Aerial Yoga! Watch the video below (skip to 15:30 to get straight to the action)…

If Arnold can survive this, you can too! The road to good health doesn’t necessarily have to be paved with tears. You just need to start with realistic goals and progress from there. Here are some other simple ways to #BeBetter:

#1 Chew Your Food Slower

The stomach requires some time to realise that it is full. When you eat at a slower pace, you’re giving your stomach time to register its fullness, hence preventing you from overeating.

#2 Park Further From The Entrance

The extra steps that you take may seem like nothing, but in the long run, these additional movement will prove to be beneficial.

#3 Swap To A Smaller Plate

That way, you don’t have much space on your plate to fill with food that you may not necessarily need. But don’t go and refill your plate after that lah.

#4 Pair Your Meal With Water

If you’re already indulging in a sinful meal, opt for a low calorie drink instead. Give and take lah. And what’s more low calorie than some sky juice?

#5 Stop Being Mean To Yourself

This is super cliché, but you should love yourself. A healthy lifestyle includes a healthy mind, and you can’t achieve that if you’re constantly belittling yourself.
