Some animals might have successfully escaped the Australian bushfires but some of them are outside their natural habitats now and are currently starving.

To help the animals in crisis, the New South Wales government has authorised aircrafts to drop thousands of kilograms of food to feed the starving wildlife.

“The wallabies typically survive the fire itself but are then left stranded with limited natural food as the fire takes out the vegetation around their rocky habitat,” said NSW’s environment minister, Matt Kean.

The service is titled “Operation Rock Wallaby” and aims to help the population of the brush-tailed rock wallabies that were already considered as an “at risk” species with food like carrots and sweet potatoes.

2,200kg of fresh vegetables have been dropped so far and the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service has started making food drops at several national parks and areas with the animals in need.

The initiative aims to help the rock wallabies with their post-bushfire recovery process after an estimated 1.25 billion animals dying from the bushfires.

Netizens’ hearts were warmed by the government’s initiative to use their aircrafts to transport food supplies for the endangered wildlife.

We hope that the Australian wildlife will recover from the bushfires and the crisis will be resolved soon!
