Everybody knows smoking is bad for your health and if you’re a non-smoker it’s annoying sometimes when you see your colleagues go for their multiple smoke breaks… but this company’s got non-smokers covered!

A Japanese company named Piala Inc took extra steps to promote non-smoking staff who don’t go for smoke breaks by rewarding them with not one, not two, but six days of paid leave!

The company took the action after non-smoking staff put in notes about how non-smokers are doing more work than the staff who take smoke breaks, said the company’s spokesman, Hirotaka Matsushima.

Takao Asuka, the CEO of the company, decided to compensate non-smoking staff with the extra paid leave after the company’s suggestion box was filled with notes saying smoking breaks were causing problems in the office!

He hopes it will not only reward the non-smoking staff, but also encourage the staff who smoke to quit smoking, or at least stop taking smoke breaks during office hours.

Japan has always been working on reducing smokers in the country, with smoking bans in public places, the government also tightened the smoking rules to keep the city smoke-free for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics!

The reward system is definitely a great move and if it helps make more people quit smoking, we don’t see why it shouldn’t be implemented elsewhere too!
