If you’re someone who wears makeup, you’ve probably been told to remove your makeup before you sleep, a million times before. We know, it’s super annoying, and not to mention tiring, to remove it, but you really should.

If you’re the type that likes to take the chance and not remove your makeup, we’ve got news for you. This woman didn’t take the time to remove her makeup and ended up with mites living in her eyelashes!

According to Oriental Daily, a 32-year-old woman from Hubei Province in China, spent the past six months with itchy and dry eyes. Her eyelashes kept falling off as well!

She went to the doctor to find out what was happening with her eyes when her doctor found mites living in her eyelash follicles!

In case you’re wondering how exactly someone gets mites, according to Healthline, mites are caused by two types of Demodex mites – Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis. Both these types if mites are microscopic and can’t be seen with the naked eye.

The mites are known to feed on dead skin cells and D. folliculorum is the most likely to affect eyelashes. These mites feed on the dead skin cells around the lashes and eyelids.

According to the site, everyone has small amounts of these mites but they could still spread between people and animals through close contact. In large quantities, these mites become problematic and cause further skin issues. They can also aggravate pre-existing skin diseases.

The doctor found many mites crawling around the root of her eyelashes when the 32-year-old’s eyelashes were examined!

The doctor questioned the woman and asked if she had to wear makeup to work. It was suspected that because of the woman’s irregular work schedule and pressure from work, she never removed her makeup properly at the end of each day.

Because the woman did not remove her makeup properly, it resulted in a large number of mites that bred on her eyelashes.

“No wonder my eyes have always been itchy and felt dry for the past six months,” the woman said. “My eyelashes would fall off often too!”

She was then advised by the doctor to properly and thoroughly remove her makeup whenever she used it. This would reduce the chances of mites growing in an unusual amount of time.

In more serious cases, this could lead to a growth on the eye. Not removing your makeup properly could also lead to other eye diseases like conjunctivitis and blepharitis – the inflammation of the eyelids.

Consider this our lesson learnt! Makeup must always be removed properly by the end of each day. If you’re going to wear makeup, be sure to take that extra five minutes to remove it so you don’t get mites growing on your eyelashes!

Share this with someone who’s always refusing to remove their makeup!
