5 things that we’re suddenly quite pro at after staying home for over a month

In the beginning of 2020, many of us made ambitious resolutions for the new year and decade. But as the months went by, some of those resolutions had to be put aside for the time being—especially anything that involves the outdoors—because of the global crisis we’re currently facing.

But that shouldn’t stop us from still trying out new things at home!

As we continue to isolate ourselves from the outside world, many of us finally found the freedom to do some of the things we’ve been meaning to do but never had the time to.

So with more time on our hands, here are some of the skills you’ve probably picked up after staying home for more than a month:

#1 Dancing on TikTok

You don’t have to scroll through your social media feed for long until you see a video of somebody following yet another viral dance hit from TikTok. Amateur or professional, everyone is practically a dancer now.

It’s not too late to join the (virtual) party, so pick a song and show us your moves!

#2 Cooking and baking new recipes

Every other day, we see somebody cooking up a storm. From baking bread to making Hainanese chicken rice to cooking curry, it looks like we’re all trying to beat each other in the kitchen.

And now that we’re in Ramadhan month, we can expect to see more dishes coming. So it doesn’t hurt to show off the new recipes you’ve been testing!

#3 Learning a new language

As citizens of a multilingual country, most of us are open to learning a new language, especially with all the international TV series and movies we’re currently binging.

Some people have been diligently learning a foreign language with multiple apps that are available out there. So let’s challenge ourselves to pick up some new phrases in this time. Muy bien! (That’s Spanish for “very good”!)

#4 Working out every day

Well, at least we’re putting one of our new year’s resolutions to work now that we have more time to exercise. It doesn’t matter whether you’re still a beginner or fitness influencer, focusing on your physical and mental well-being is just as important to boost your energy and positivity.

#5 Learning a music instrument

In times like this, music is one of the few things that can lift our mood every day. For those who didn’t have the privilege to learn a musical instrument from a young age, they’re now taking up piano and guitar lessons online, either using YouTube tutorials or various apps.

And on that note, we can also start practising our vocals! Popular wholesale mall GM Klang has taken the initiative to rewrite their theme song in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new lyrics produced and sung by the management’s creative team are aimed to inspire all Malaysians to keep fighting as we continue to endure this Movement Control Order. It really brings a new meaning as we face this challenging time together.

Check out the song here:

If you enjoyed the song, you can also make your own cover of it! Once you do, post the video on your Facebook or Instagram feed with the hashtag #GMKlang and stand a chance to get featured on their social media platforms.

Let’s continue to inspire and encourage one another!
