With the Conditional Movement Control Order in place, unfortunately some have been trying to take advantage of the new procedures in place.

According to Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, over 1,000 vehicles have been caught attempting to “balik kampung” despite being unauthorised to do so.

Over the past two days, a total of 1,175 vehicles were caught stubbornly attempting unauthorised interstate travel to their hometowns.

“Surprisingly, many are still trying to return to their villages,” said the Senior Minister at today’s daily press conference on the CMCO. “Yesterday, 1,175 vehicles were caught trying to cross the state borders to return to their hometowns and they were subsequently asked to turn around by the police.”

The Senior Minister has also urged the public to forget about planning for interstate travel as it would be very frustrating to be told to turn around.

As of 16th May, 1,284 vehicles have been caught attempting unauthorised interstate travel and were ordered to turn around by the police.

Save yourself the hassle and if unless you’ve been authorised, please stay home and tell your family members to do the same this Raya.

Raya may be a little bit different this year, but let’s all try to do our part to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by adhering to the CMCO rules.

In the meantime, be sure to keep playing your part by staying safe and staying home, and only going out if it’s absolutely necessary. And if you’re going out, be sure to practice social distancing.
