Brace yourself. The heat is coming. Several states in Malaysia are expected to receive less-than-average levels of rainfall from August to September due to the current hot weather.

The states that are affected include Sarawak, the western parts of Sabah, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka as well as Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

According to the Meteorological Department, the situation is due to the current southwest monsoon season, which brings heat, thus causing an increase in temperatures. “The current hot weather that struck several parts of the country is expected to persist until this weekend, but it can still occur during the southwest monsoon period,
which is expected to come to an end by the end of September.”

The department also warned that a lack of rainfall can cause drought, haze and forest fires. So, remember to stay hydrated, wear a mask on hazy days, and spend more time indoors!
