The New South Wales police has reportedly taken action against 183 people for bushfire-related offences, including 40 juveniles since late last year.

24 of them have been charged for allegedly deliberately setting up bushfires and 53 have received cautions for failing to comply with a total fire ban.

A 19-year-old volunteer firefighter was also arrested in November for arson, setting multiple blazes that he also helped put out after.

"We have zero tolerance for this type of behavior," the NSW Detective Inspector Scott Nelson said. "We all know the devastation these fires are causing."
