Pandelela Rinong Creates History By Winning Malaysia’s First Gold In Diving World Cup

History has been made on this day as Malaysia’s own Pandelela Rinong has won the nation’s first ever gold medal at the FINA Diving World Cup 2021!

The national diver dove her way into victory in the women’s 10m platform and amassed a total of 355.70 point to earn herself gold at the Tokyo Aquatic Centre in Japan.

 

With her win, the 28-year-old Sarawakian has become the only national athlete to contribute a medal to the Malaysian contingent in the five-day tournament.

 

Japan’s Matsuri Arai took home the silver medal with a total of 342.00 points while Caeli Mckay from Canada won the bronze medal with 338.55 points.

Pandelela bettered her record in the final after being ranked third in the semi-finals with 333.00 points, behind Caeli with 343.85 points and Andrea Spendolini Siriex in second place with 336.30 points,” Astro Awani reported.

 

The national diver shared that she was glad to achieve more consistency in the final compared to the previous round.

 

“Of course I want to be on the podium at the Olympics, but I also want to do my personal best in both the synchronized and individual event,” she said.
